What began as a local landmark narrowly avoided demolition and has since become one of the most unique veteran tributes in the United States.
The Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial honors more than 6,000 service members with individual plaques—men and women from every branch, and every era of American conflict, from the Revolutionary War to those still serving today. Among them are Medal of Honor recipients, U.S. Presidents, actors, professional athletes, local heroes, and everyday citizens who answered the call. Together, their stories form a living tribute to the cost of freedom and the enduring spirit of service.
Every plaque on Mt. Soledad represents a real life of service, sacrifice, and patriotism. Use our searchable database to explore individual tributes—by name, branch, rank, war era, or special honors. Whether you're looking for a loved one or discovering the legacy of a stranger, each story helps preserve the meaning of freedom.
At Mt. Soledad, we believe that honoring the past shapes a better future. Through student tours, educational programs, and community partnerships, the Memorial serves as a living classroom—where young people learn about the cost of freedom, the value of service, and the stories of real heroes. We’re committed to helping the next generation carry these lessons forward with pride, gratitude, and understanding.
