At the heart of Mt. Soledad stands more than just a memorial — it’s a living tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of our nation’s veterans.
At the heart of Mt. Soledad stands more than just a memorial — it’s a living tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of our nation’s veterans. Through our educational programs, we aim to bring history to life for students of all ages, inspiring a deeper appreciation for those who have served and protected our freedoms.
The Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial offers a powerful, one-of-a-kind educational setting overlooking the Pacific. Here, students can walk among the black granite plaques honoring over 6,000 veterans — each one etched with names, faces, and personal stories that span generations and wars.
Field trips and student visits are led by our passionate docents, many of whom are veterans themselves. These experiences provide:
Firsthand stories of heroism, service, and sacrifice
Age-appropriate lessons that align with history and civic engagement curricula
A tangible connection to the people behind the pages of American history
Whether your class is studying World War II, the Vietnam War, or post-9/11 service, our memorial fosters empathy, critical thinking, and meaningful discussion.

We welcome school groups, scout troops, and youth organizations from all across San Diego and beyond. Our team can help coordinate a personalized experience based on your group’s age range, learning objectives, and time constraints.
Field trips are free of charge, but advance registration is required.
