OUR History

Honoring Veterans. Preserving Their Legacy.

Origins Rooted in Service

Founded in 1952, the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial was born from the vision of World War II veterans, civic leaders, and proud San Diegans who wanted to preserve the stories of those who served. Their mission was simple — but profound:

“Create a sacred place where courage and sacrifice are remembered forever.”

For 70 years, this mountaintop has stood as more than a park. It is a beacon of remembrance and pride, etched with thousands of stories that shaped our nation.

“As long as this mountaintop stands, so too will the stories of those who gave everything.”
